Spring Chinook fishing was a little slow on the Trask this week, but the fishing should continue to improve throughout the month. Using good bait and fishing early will improve odds. These fish can be finicky, but they’re worth the effort.

There should be a few summer steelhead showing up on the Trask as well.

As of May 1, a gear restriction will be in place: from the marker at Loren’s Drift upstream to the Cedar Creek Boat slide (River Mile 10.9) fishing is restricted to fly-fishing or bobber fishing until July 31. See the Salmon/Steelhead Bobber Fishing Rule on page 18 of the regulations for details.

The North Coast Rivers open for trout fishing on May 22. There are some nice cutthroat around, and these aggressive fish can be fun to catch. Most of the rivers are restricted to artificial lures and flies above tidewater until Aug. 31, so check the regulations before you go.
