The Southwest Regional Council of the Access and Habitat program will host a public meeting on June 4 at noon to discuss renewal of the Jackson Access and Cooperative Travel Management Area (JACTMA), and the Territorial Youth Deer Hunt.
Renewal of the Jackson Access and Cooperative Travel Management Area (JACTMA) would continue enforcement of existing winter road closures to increase habitat effectiveness for wildlife, reduce disturbance to deer and elk on important winter range, and reduce soil erosion, road maintenance, vandalism, forest fires, timber theft, and illegal dumping. The continuation of JACTMA, which began in 1995, would also allow continued sportsmen use of private timber lands in portions of the Evans Creek, Dixon, and Rogue Wildlife Management units through 2021.
The Council will also review the Territorial Youth Deer Hunt in the Siuslaw Wildlife Management unit. This project provides a high-quality hunting opportunity for 10 to 13 youth hunters on 4,477 acres of private forestland. The project has been part of the A and H program since 2009.
Interested parties can attend the meeting at ODFW’s Roseburg Umpqua Watershed District Office at 4192 N. Umpqua Hwy Roseburg, OR 97470.
The A and H program funds projects that provide hunter access and/or improve wildlife habitat on private land in Oregon. It’s funded by a $4 surcharge on hunting licenses and big game auction and raffle tag sales.
For more information, or to register for the meeting conference call-in line, please contact Jade Keehn, ODFW’s A and H SW Regional Coordinator at [email protected], (541) 826-8774 x 232.
