Chinook salmon are present in the Nehalem, which gets an early fall run, and fishing has been fair but sporadic lately. Some decent fish were caught last week. Trolling herring or spinners in the lower bay is generally the most productive. We expect a modest run of Chinook this year, so fishing will be slow at times.

Sea run cutthroat are present in good numbers on the North Coast this year, and are throughout the basin. Fishing has been pretty good for sea-runs this year and should remain so well into the fall. Most of the rivers are restricted to artificial lures and flies above tidewater until Aug. 31, so check the regulations before you go.
