Plenty time to get a holiday bird

Fall turkey will be open through January 2021, and this year there are no limits on the total number of fall turkey tags available. Reminder: The White River fall turkey hunt has been closed.

November & December are big months for crab

A tasty alternative for the holidays?

The next two months are some of the best of the year for crabbing. Recreational ocean crabbing is closed through Nov. 30, but there are plenty of opportunities to crab from shore (including docks and piers). Crabbing can make for a fun and easy family outing. Best bets for fishing

With some long-needed rain in the forecast, the biggest improvement will be in the coastal Chinook fisheries where the rain should get fish moving into the rivers. Cooler water temperatures will have trout and yellow perch biting in many areas.

• The rain forecasted for this week should improve Chinook fishing in most mid- and north coast rivers.
• Expect same rain to bring a few more coho into Siltcoos, Tahkenitch and Tenmile lakes.
• Yellow perch fishing on Tenmile Lake continues to be excellent. These fish make excellent table fare and continue to bite even with colder water temperatures.
• Rain on Thursday and Friday should get steelhead moving again and improve water clarity on the Middle Rogue. There are some coho around as well.
• Bradley, Butterfield and Empire lakes were stocked with trophy-size trout in mid-October, and some of these fish are still around.
• Junction City Pond and Timber Linn Lake have been recently stocked with trout.
• On the Deschutes River, anglers are finding steelhead as far upriver as Trout Creek.
• Both Deadhorse and Campbell lakes have been stocked with trout this week.
• Wild adult coho returns to the Clackamas and Sandy watersheds continue to be very strong. The Clackamas coho return is on track to potentially reach 10,000 adults or more!
