Steelhead fishing on the Umatilla River is closed and will not open until Sept. 1.

Trout fishing on the Umatilla River opened on May 22 and will remain open until Oct. 31. Trout fishing on the mainstem Umatilla has been productive and people are catching fish with both lures and flies, as well as bait up to Ryan Creek. Bait is not allowed above Ryan Creek. Concentrate on the pocket water as the water temperature rises.

The spring Chinook fishery opened on May 25, 2021 on the Umatilla River. Fisheries managers will continue to monitor the run and the fishery to determine when the harvest quota has been met. Once the harvest quota has been met, the fishery will be closed. Look for any regulations changes that occur on myodfw.com.

Anglers have been concentrating their efforts near the mouth, primarily using bait on the bottom. The water temperatures in the lower Umatilla have warmed significantly and there have been no new adults caught at Three Mile in the past three days. The fishery between the Hwy 730 bridge and Three Mile Dam will close after June 10.
