The Crooked River has continued to have excellent fishing. With the cooler temperatures, the hatches have spread out throughout the day a bit more. The pale morning dun hatch has been really killer as of late. Caddis are also around but the fish seem to key into the PMDs when they’re on the surface. Hopper patterns can be worth a try right now, especially if the canyon gets windy. Nymphing has been consistently good with small mayfly patterns, caddis pupa, and midges. Euro-style jigged flies can be really killer along with, two-bit hookers and tailwater tinies. If temperatures continue to stay below average, we can expect the good mayfly action to continue and possibly even transition into blue wing olive hatches. It has been a long summer and a quick start to fall would be amazing.
