The temporary rule allowing spearfishing of smallmouth bass ends on Oct. 31. Most smallmouth bass are in deep pools for the winter.
Striped bass anglers are still catching a few fish fishing from Rocky Point to Riverton. Some anglers are plunking with bait, while others are casting swimbaits as they drift along the riverbank.
All salmon fishing is closed in the Coquille Basin for the remainder of the year due to very poor returns of wild Chinook.
Trout fishing in streams and rivers is open until Oct. 31.
