ODFW stocked the lake recently with 12-inch rainbow trout. Fishing for rainbow trout should be fair.‌

A few lake trout are also showing up in the catch. Lake trout typically hold in very deep water. Points that drop off quickly are the best places to catch them. They will also be moving into spawning areas which make them more accessible offshore. Brook trout and lake trout are also cruising the shoreline looking for places to spawn.‌

Fly-anglers should look for the traveling sedge hatch. These caddisflies run across the surface in early morning and late evening. Also, look for pandora moths and carpenter ant hatches. The flooded timber in the northwest section of the lake is a good place to target rising fish.‌

Please report any kokanee caught from the lake. The lake is currently 10 percent full. ‌

Launching boats becomes particularly challenging as the lake recedes. There is no official concrete boat ramp with dock. Launching takes place from a sandy shoreline. Only small boats are recommended. You can also call Lake of the Woods Resort for updates.
