Trout: Trout fishing has closed on all portions of the lower Deschutes adjoining the Warm Springs Reservation but trout fishing has continued to be really good from the northern reservation deadline down to the confluence of the White River. The river has been really stable over the last week of so and that has helped fishing quite a bit. Midges, BWO's and a few remanant caddis are the bugs on the menu. Big stonefly nymphs with an egg, BWO, or midge dropper are producing well, and keep your eyes on the surface in the afternoons.

Steelhead: The fish are present in good numbers in most of the lower 100 miles of the Deschutes right now, but best fishing has been above the locked gate. Water temps in the lower river continue to fall predictably with the cooler nights, but are between 45 and 48 degrees out of the dam, and cooler as you move downriver. We are still getting a few fish up on floating lines but a sink tip is the way to go. As the water cools we are having much more luch with bigger patterns in dark colors. Make sure you finish all of your swing! Many of the takes are fairly subtle, and late in the swing. And for those of you fishing under a bobber, that continues to be effective too.
