Spring Chinook closed July 1 under permanent regulation and no Chinook may be retained until next year. It was a good season for fishing, but overall, both hatchery and wild numbers are down for Chinook.
Summer steelhead season is going well with a few hatchery fish being caught. The number of wild summers is high enough ODFW predicts it will be enough to keep the river open for the time being. If the population is forecasted to be under 1,200 wild summer steelhead, ODFW may need to take management actions.
With the low population of summers in 2021, anglers are reminded to handle fish with extra care this year. Practicing good catch-and-release techniques will help ensure we have fish in the future.
Trout fishing is open year-round upstream of Slide Creek Dam and in tributaries in this section. Fishing above Slide Creek Dam can be a great idea as the flows lower.
