Trout:The caddis are starting to thin out a bit with overnight lows starting to reduce the insect activity. But as the caddis drop off we see the mayflies start to reappear on the menu. We are seeing some PMD and PED hatches on some days, BWO's on the cloudy days, and a smattering of other species in the mix. Fishing can be good at nearly any time of the day, and nymphing continues to be productive. Water temps are around 54-58 degrees near Warm Springs and the river is still around 3800 CFS out of the dam.

Steelhead:There are more than a few steelhead in the lower 100 miles of the Deschutes right now! Water temps in the lower river continue to fall with rain and cooler nights. AM temps were around 61 and PM temps around 63 during the last week below Mack's Canyon. The drop in water temps has improved dry fly fishing and we found more than a few up top. The counts continue to be extremely good over the dams so it very well may be a banner year for steelhead on the Deschutes! Good news, the indian nets come out of the Columbia this evening and that should really help fishing over the next week or two!
