The Metolius is always a stunning spring option. Hatches are picking up—with BWO, March Browns, and even a few caddis coming off in the warmer afternoon windows. Dry fly purists can find success targeting risers in the flats and eddies with fine tippet and precise presentation.
As always, nymphing reigns supreme here. Golden stones, mayfly nymphs, and smaller attractor patterns are all in play. If you’re after bulls, now is the time to start working big streamers through the deeper pools and runs. Just remember: it takes time and patience to connect with one.
