Trout fishing should be good, and smallmouth bass have been caught recently on 5-inch Senkos. Applegate's surface elevation has slightly dropped to 1,901 feet, slightly below the normal flood control level in winter. Boat access is limited to the low water boat ramp at French Gulch. The water temperature at the surface is 45F.

There is a longstanding health advisory for consumption of resident species due to elevated levels of mercury. See Oregon Health Authority consumption guidelines or the sportfishing regulations for more information.
